Despite considerable progress in our understanding of the brain, translating discoveries in neuroscience into effective therapies remains one of the greatest challenges in biomedical research. Why do we still struggle to transform insights from basic science into treatments that improve the lives of patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders? And perhaps more importantly, what will it take to change this?

These questions inspired the creation of ‘Translational Neuroscience’, an open-access volume that brings together leading experts from academia and industry to reflect on the current state of translational neuroscience and its future direction. Throughout the book, scientists at the forefront of the field share perspectives on the progress made over the past decade, while also discussing emerging concepts, technologies, and therapeutic strategies that may help accelerate the path from scientific discovery to clinical impact.

The volume spans a broad range of topics, from autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease to innovative therapeutic approaches such as neuromodulation, psychedelics, and artificial intelligence. Together, the chapters provide insight into both the opportunities and the obstacles that continue to shape neurotherapeutic development.

“We expect that it will encourage others to embark on the arduous but highly rewarding path towards discovering and developing new therapies for patients with brain disorders.”

Karoly Nikolich and Robert C. Malenka, editors of Translational Neuroscience.

We sincerely thank all contributors to this book for their expertise, insights, and dedication.
