The Scientific Reports team is pleased to announce the most read* articles from 2022. Featuring authors from around the world and from research fields across the scope of the journal, these papers highlight valuable research from an international community.

In 2021 Scientific Reports expanded its scope to consider submissions in the field of engineering alongside the excellent materials studies that we have enjoyed publishing for considerably longer. In 2022 some of those engineering-related contributions are already in evidence. You might be interested in finding out more about how a wireless sensor network can be used to detect forest fires; a far-UVC system can be used to inactivate airborne pathogens; and how to fabricate a disposable paper battery for single use applications to reduce e-waste.
