World Social Media Day is an important occasion used to recognise the impact of social media on global communication, networking and businesses. Social media is an important tool that can leverage connectivity, influence and interaction between people across the world. However, this awareness day is also an occasion to remind people to use social media responsibly, and be aware of the dangers it can present.

Here, we have compiled a series of Collections from Scientific Reports and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, that call for submissions on research that furthers our understanding of the effects of social media. Find out more about each Collection and hear from the Guest Editors below.

What to believe? Perspectives on fake news and misinformation

This Humanities and Social Sciences Communications Collection welcomes research that considers all aspects of the misinformation ecosystem, the contextual factors that give rise to it and its ramifications. 

Fame and narcissism

This Scientific Reports Collection welcomes original research articles on the bidirectional relationship between fame and narcissism. Studies investigating the effects of public exposure on human behaviour and mental health are welcome.

Intervention Research Using Mobile Devices, Apps, and Social Media

This Scientific Reports Collection invites original intervention research using mobile devices, apps, and social media, as well as studies exploring the optimal methods for designing these technologies for intervention research.

Psychological approaches to health misinformation

This Scientific Reports Collection welcomes original research articles on the psychological approaches to understand and fight health misinformation.
