Thanks for sharing your though and writing the excellent summary; I wonder if one can aim to see how these strains are metabolicly different - basically, investigating whether variety e.g Lachnospiraceae mirror human evolution/immigration patterns; that may help to understand the causal effect of this long co-evolution.
