About Ahmed Mahmoud
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sayed Mahmoud is a Professor of Civil Procedure and Arbitration Law at the College of Law, Qatar University, and at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University (Cairo). He is a leading scholar and practitioner in civil procedure, compulsory enforcement, and international arbitration, with extensive academic, judicial, and professional experience across the Arab region and internationally.
He has served as a Legal Advisor and Expert to the Supreme Judicial Council of Qatar (2020–2024), is currently a Legal Advisor to Qatar University, and has also advised the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar. In addition, he is a Member of the Training Board at the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Ministry of Justice in Qatar.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud is a practicing international arbitrator accredited by numerous leading arbitration institutions, including the International Arbitration Institute (Paris), the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the African Arbitration Association (AfAA), the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), and others. He has acted as arbitrator, co-arbitrator, legal expert, and consultant in high-value domestic and international disputes, including complex commercial, construction, PPP, oil and gas, and family-business disputes exceeding QAR 1.25 billion.
Academically, he holds a PhD in Civil and Commercial Procedure Law from Ain Shams University and completed postdoctoral research at Lyon III University (France) and Georgetown University Law Center (USA). His scholarly output includes a substantial body of peer-reviewed research published in leading legal journals, with a particular focus on arbitration, emergency arbitration, enforcement of judgments and awards, procedural guarantees, sports arbitration, and judicial digitalization.
In recognition of his academic and societal contributions, he was awarded the State Encouragement Award (2024) by the Arab Republic of Egypt for his work on prompt justice and its impact on family and society. He is also a lawyer admitted before the Egyptian Court of Cassation, the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Supreme Constitutional Court, and is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
