About Ahmed MY Osman

I am an Assistant Professor in the Pharmacy Practice Department at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). My career over the past 20 years has been a global journey across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, China, and Malaysia, driven by a single mission: to improve patient outcomes through the lens of health economics and pharmacy management.

My path began in the clinical and community pharmacy sectors of Cairo. Seeking to quantify the "burden" of disease, I pursued an MSc at King Saud University, where my research on ischemic heart disease was recognized by ISPOR Europe. This sparked a deep interest in the methodologies of value—how we measure health and how we prioritize care. This pursuit led me to Tianjin University, China, for my PhD. There, I specialized in Health Preference Research (HPR) and health state utility values, developing a valuation of SF-6Dv2 based on Best-Worst Scaling (BWS).

Throughout my tenure at institutions like Newgiza University and King Abdul-Aziz University, I have focused on bridging the gap between clinical practice and administrative excellence. My technical toolkit includes advanced proficiency in Lighthouse Studio, R, and STATA, which I apply to model pharmacoeconomic equity and medication utilisation. I am also deeply committed to the research ecosystem, having served as Co-Chair for the ISOQOL New Investigators SIG and contributing as a reviewer for multiple local and international journal such as Value in Health.

As I look toward the next five years, my research is evolving to meet the challenges of the digital age. Supported by a British Council grant, I am currently focusing on Transnational Education (TNE) in Big Data. My upcoming projects will leverage real-world data to evaluate clinical outcomes in Type 2 Diabetes, particularly through the use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring. My goal is to develop data-driven frameworks that ensure medication equity and improve the quality of life for patients.

I am always open to discussing health preference research, pharmacoeconomics, Medication utilisation and sustainable pharmacy management. Let’s connect and explore how we can make healthcare more equitable together.
