About Alejandra Jauregui
I am a researcher specializing in movement behaviors and their impact on public health, with a particular focus on marginalized populations in Mexico and Latin America. As Head of the Department of Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles at the Center for Nutrition and Health Research (CINyS) within the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) in Mexico, my work aims to generate high-quality evidence to inform policies and interventions that support healthy movement behavior transitions from childhood to adolescence.
I hold a Ph.D. in Population Nutrition Sciences from INSP and have dedicated my career to studying physical activity, sedentary behavior, and their broader implications for public health. My research explores how necessity-driven versus choice-based physical activity influences behavior patterns, particularly in low-resource settings.
Beyond movement behaviors, my research extends to evaluating public health policies, such as the impact of Mexico’s front-of-pack warning labels on dietary behaviors. I am also involved in capacity-building initiatives in implementation science to strengthen prevention strategies for noncommunicable diseases in Mexico.
With over 11,000 citations to my work, I actively contribute to advancing physical activity and public health research in Latin America. I collaborate with international research networks and mentor early-career researchers, fostering the next generation of scientists dedicated to creating healthier, more active societies.
