About Chandrakanta Mahanty

I am currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at GITAM University, Visakhapatnam. With over 10 years of experience in teaching and research, I have consistently applied machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems in healthcare, education, and data science. Currently pursuing a one-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2025–2026) at the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), Taiwan. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from GIET University, Odisha, where my research was centered on biological data analysis using learning models and fuzzy rule mining. The core contributions of my doctoral work have been published in reputed international journals, including multiple Q1 and Q2 SCIE-indexed papers. In total, I have published 21 journal articles, 10 conference papers, and 4 book chapters. My work includes impactful research on topics such as COVID-19 detection, breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease prediction, educational data mining, and fuzzy ensemble modeling. I have also served as a reviewer for over 220 peer-reviewed manuscripts across 20+ prestigious journals, including Scientific Reports, Diagnostics, Applied Sciences, and BMC Medical Informatics. I am proud to be on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) and BMC Artificial Intelligence (Springer Nature). In addition to research, I actively mentor B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. students on their projects and have coordinated major national-level events, including the Smart India Hackathon and Toycathon. I have applied for research grants as both PI and Co-PI, including a DST proposal on AI-based Alzheimer’s care and a SEED grant on diabetic retinopathy detection. My academic journey is also supported by numerous FDPs, certifications, and training programs in AI, data science, and emerging technologies. I remain deeply committed to advancing research that blends technical rigor with meaningful societal impact, especially in the fields of healthcare AI and educational innovation.
