About Chao Chen

Dr Chao Chen joined Tsinghua University at 2007 and got promoted to be an associate professor at 2010. His research is mainly focused on the following fields: (1) Identification & control of Emerging Contaminants in water, especially on disinfection by-products (DBPs), per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and antibiotics; (2) Mechanism and control of corrosion and water chemical stability in distribution system; (3) Emergency response for water-related accidents like chemical spills and algae bloom. He has published over 100 papers in English and over 100 in Chinese. He has edited over 6 books and chapters in English and 12 in Chinese. He was invited to give the plenary or keynote speeches in four international conferences on DBPs and edited one book on DBPs with Springer publishing in 2024. He has won several national awards in China and international awards. He also devoted himself into several severe emergency water treatment practices in China to fight against the chemical spill accidents. He has been elected as the chairman of disinfection specialist group (SG) of IWA from 2019 to 2025 and its secretary from 2015 to 2019, the strategic council member of IWA from 2015 to 2021, a management committee member of specialist group of tastes, odors and algal toxins in water of IWA.
