About Dr. Adil Ahmed

I am a Fisheries and Marine Biologist and Fisheries and Environmental Consultant with more than 20 years of academic, research, and professional experience in environmental sciences, natural resources, fisheries, marine and coastal ecosystems, biological oceanography, environmental impact assessment (EIA), fisheries management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
I began my academic career in 2001 as a Faculty Member in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Red Sea University, Sudan, working in environmental sciences, natural resources, environmental management, and related fields. Since 2013, my academic, research, and professional activities have increasingly focused on fisheries sciences, marine biology, biological oceanography, fisheries management, and marine and coastal ecosystems.
I currently serve as Head of Research and Development at Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS), United Arab Emirates, where I contribute to environmental studies, Environmental Impact Assessments, project feasibility assessments, technical reports, sustainable resource management, environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development. I also serve as a Research Scientist at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Red Sea University, Sudan, contributing to applied research in fisheries, marine and coastal ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental sciences.
I am a Commission Member of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) for the 2026–2029 cycle, with membership in the West Asia Regional Network, Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Specialist Group, and Ecosystem-Based Aquaculture Specialist Group. My interests in these areas include marine and coastal ecosystem management, sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity conservation, ecosystem resilience, climate change adaptation, ecosystem-based management, and the sustainable development of aquatic resources and the blue economy.
I also serve as a national technical expert and member of the Technical Committee for Fish and Fisheries and the Technical Regulation on the Quality and Safety of Red and White Meat at the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO). I previously led the Sudanese delegation to the 37th Session of the Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products (CCFFP37), representing Sudan in international technical discussions on fisheries, fish and fishery products, and related food standards.
I have authored scientific publications and technical reports in Arabic and English covering fisheries, marine and environmental sciences, biological oceanography, biodiversity, climate change, water security, and sustainable development. I also serve as a peer reviewer for scientific journals, including the Ocean Journal of Marine Science (OJMS) and Ocean and Coastal Research (OCR).
My current professional interests focus on the interface between marine and coastal biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of aquatic resources, ecosystem-based management, climate resilience, environmental impact assessment, and science-based environmental and biodiversity policy, with particular relevance to the Red Sea, West Asia, and arid coastal regions.
