About Dr. Adil Ahmed

Dr. Adil Sidahmed Omer Ahmed is a Fisheries and Marine Biologist and Fisheries and Environmental Consultant with more than 20 years of academic and professional experience in environmental sciences, natural resources, fisheries, marine and coastal ecosystems, biological oceanography, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and sustainable development.

He began his academic career in 2001 as a Faculty Member in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Red Sea University, Sudan, where he worked until 2013 in the fields of environmental sciences, natural resources, and environmental management. Since 2013, his professional and research work has increasingly focused on fisheries sciences, marine biology, biological oceanography, fisheries management, and marine and coastal ecosystems.

He currently serves as a Fisheries and Environmental Consultant and Head of the Research and Development Department at Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS), United Arab Emirates, where he contributes to environmental studies, project feasibility assessments, technical reports, sustainable resource management, environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development. He is also a Research Scientist at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Red Sea University, Sudan, where he contributes to applied research in fisheries, marine and coastal ecosystems, and environmental sciences.

Dr. Ahmed is a member of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM), West Asia Regional Network, for the 2026–2029 cycle, with expertise and interests in marine and coastal ecosystem management, sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, climate change adaptation, and the blue economy. His professional and research experience has particular relevance to the Red Sea region and the sustainable management of coastal and aquatic resources.

He also serves as a national technical expert and member of the Technical Committee for Fish and Fisheries and the Technical Regulation on the Quality and Safety of Red and White Meat at the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO). He previously led the Sudanese delegation to the 37th Session of the Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products (CCFFP37), representing Sudan in international technical discussions concerning fisheries, fish and fishery products, and food standards.

Dr. Ahmed has authored scientific publications and technical reports in Arabic and English covering fisheries sciences, marine and environmental sciences, biological oceanography, biodiversity, climate change, water security, and sustainable development. He also serves as a peer reviewer for scientific journals, including the Ocean Journal of Marine Science (OJMS) and Ocean and Coastal Research (OCR).

His current professional interests focus on the interface between marine and coastal biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of aquatic resources, ecosystem-based management, climate resilience, and science-based environmental and biodiversity policy, particularly in the Red Sea and wider West Asian region.
