Dear Editors Dr. Giang Nguyen,

Subject|:

Call for Chapters: From Linear to Circular Business Models – AI-Driven Sustainable Growth in Emerging Markets (Palgrave Macmillan, Scopus-Indexed).

                                                                              --------------

I am pleased to submit our chapter proposal, “The Circularity Readiness Ladder: An AI-Enabled Maturity Framework for Transitioning Informal Value Chains in Emerging Markets,” for consideration in the forthcoming Palgrave Macmillan edited volume From Linear to Circular Business Models: AI-Driven Sustainable Growth in Emerging Markets.

The proposed chapter is aligned primarily with Topic 1: Foundations of AI and the Circular Economy in Emerging Markets. It addresses a measurement and conceptual gap in the emerging literature: the absence of a consistent way to distinguish between AI-enabled efficiency improvements within predominantly linear systems and interventions that actually contribute to circular value retention and loop closure.

The chapter proposes two complementary components: the Circularity Readiness Ladder, a four-stage maturity framework ranging from Extractive Linear to Regenerative Circular, and the AI-Enabled Circularity Quotient (AI CQ), which combines a digitization dimension with a physically grounded Loop Closure Ratio. The framework is intended to assess circularity based on the outcomes achieved rather than simply on the presence of AI technologies.

To demonstrate its applicability across different informal value-chain settings, the chapter considers three sectors: informal wholesale agriculture, informal electronic-waste collection, and garment offcut recovery. The chapter further identifies measurement of actual loop closure as an important research gap and proposes a staged agenda for empirical validation.

We believe the chapter fits the volume's focus on AI, circular economy transitions, and emerging-market contexts, while also contributing a foundational measurement and maturity perspective that can potentially be applied across sectors and countries.

Please share submission email details for sharing 300 words abstract for your consideration.

Thank you for considering our proposal. I would be pleased to develop the full chapter in accordance with the Palgrave Macmillan manuscript guidelines if the proposal is selected.

Kind regards,

Dr. Chandra Deepak
