About Farooq Ahmed
Dr. Farooq Ahmed is an Associate Professor at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He is a sociocutural and medical anthropologist, as well as a public health researcher. He earned his doctorate through ethnographic research examining the complex interplay of political, economic, and cultural determinants of illness and maternal-child malnutrition in Pakistan. Dr. Ahmed’s research interests span the political economy, social justice, health-seeking behaviors, and the social determinants of public health, including water insecurity, food insecurity, and maternal-child malnutrition. He has published over 50 research papers in journals indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science. He edited of a Springer Nature book titled Environment and Public Health: Insights Towards Theory, Evidence, and Sustainable Solutions. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Ahmed serves as an Academic Editor and as a reviewer for several international journals. He has held research affiliations with the Department of Anthropology at the University of Washington, Seattle; served as a HWISE Co-Investigator at Northwestern University; and worked as a Research Associate with the Schools of Public Health at Peking University and Tsinghua University. Dr. Ahmed is also a founding member of the Pakistan Anthropological Association.
