About Fidel Costa
Fidel Costa is interested in understanding the processes that lead to volcanic eruptions and their impacts on society and the environment. He uses a range of approches, from studying rocks and minerals in the field and in the lab, through high-temperature experiments, and numerical modelling. He has been increasingly interested in databases and investigations on global processes and trends in volcanology. He has worked on volcanoes all over the world, specially in South East Asia (Indonesia, Philippines, Japan), but also in Chile and Spain. He has published over 100 manuscripts and books chapters and has been part of various Science Advisory Committees as well as Executive Member of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior. After more than 12 years working as a principal investigator, professor, and Chair at the Earth Observatory of Singapore and the Asian School of the Environment at the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) he moved at IPGP in January 2020 as Professor and Chair d'Excellence at Université Paris Cité.
