About Jaewoo Cha
Jaewoo Cha, MPH, PhD, is a public health researcher specializing in population-based health data science, health policy evaluation, and health systems research. He currently works at the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) in South Korea and completed his doctoral training in public health at Korea University.
His research focuses on the use of large-scale administrative healthcare data within national health systems to understand disease risk, healthcare utilization, and the impact of public health policies. Working within South Korea’s single-payer health insurance system, which captures longitudinal healthcare records for the entire population, he conducts nationwide cohort studies and quasi-experimental policy evaluations.
His work includes developing predictive models for maternal and perinatal outcomes using millions of nationwide records, evaluating national cancer screening programs through difference-in-differences and time-series approaches, and studying continuity of care and medication adherence in chronic disease management.
More broadly, his interests lie in translating population-scale evidence into health policy and clinical decision-making, with a focus on data-driven health system improvement and equitable healthcare delivery.
