I received my BSc degree from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, and my MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, U.S.A. Then I worked at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand, for seven years. Currently, I am a professor of economics at Zayed University x Minerva, Abu Dhabi, UAE, and a research associate at CAMA, Canberra, Australia. I was a visiting professor at a number of German universities, including the Goethe University of Frankfurt, University of Ulm, and TU Dresden. I also made shorter research visits to a number of European universities, including KOF Institute (Switzerland), NHH Bergen (Norway), Paris School of Economics (France), University College Dublin (Ireland), UA Barcelona (Spain), and the University of Granada (Spain). My current employer, the College of Interdisciplinary Studies of Zayed University, partners with Minerva University, a new university founded on the principles of learning. I have taught courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, public economics, monetary economics, and econometrics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in five different countries (USA, New Zealand, Germany, Oman, UAE) in four different continents.  My research interests lie in the intersection of applied macroeconomics and public economics. I am especially interested in ways governments may improve socio-economic outcomes.  I have published extensively on topics like how different fiscal instruments influence major macroeconomic variables, what governments should be aware of while privatizing public firms, the causes and economic consequences of terrorism, and why social cohesion matters for economic performance.  My recent work uses microeconomic data to investigate the transmission channels for large macroeconomic shocks (like fiscal policy innovations, social movements like BLM, environmental awareness,  and the Covid-19 pandemic). By doing so, I am trying to destroy the wall between microeconomics and macroeconomics and find out how individual agents within a system respond differently to macro-level shocks. I am proud to publish in top journals in different fields like Management (Journal of Management and Organizational Research Methods), Public Economics (Journal of Public Economics, Public Choice and Journal of Public Economic Theory), Macroeconomics (Journal of Macroeconomics, Economics Letters), Microeconomics (Journal of Industrial Economics and Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization), Applied Econometrics/Quantitative Methods (Journal of Applied Econometrics, Empirical Economics), Energy (Energy Economics) and Development (World Development). I am an associate editor for Springer Nature: Business &Economics.
