About Mayadhar Sethy

Research Profile

My research lies at the intersection of development economics, public health, social policy, and institutional governance, with a central focus on understanding and addressing the structural determinants of inequality. As an ICSSR Doctoral Fellow at the Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS) and a Reviewing Editor within the Springer Nature portfolio, I examine how public policy, health systems, and governance structures influence social welfare outcomes, particularly among vulnerable and marginalized populations in the Global South.

My scholarship is guided by an interdisciplinary and evidence-driven approach that combines advanced quantitative analysis with grounded qualitative inquiry. Through the integration of econometric techniques, policy evaluation, and field-based research, I seek to generate actionable evidence that informs equitable and sustainable development.

Research Areas
Health Systems, Public Policy, and Equity

My work investigates the effectiveness of health systems and public interventions in improving population health outcomes. Key areas include maternal and child health, health financing, demand-side interventions, healthcare accessibility, and pathways toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). I am particularly interested in understanding how institutional arrangements and policy design shape health equity across regions and social groups.

Nutrition, Food Security, and Development

A major strand of my research examines nutritional inequalities, dietary transitions, and food security in developing economies. This includes analyses of child malnutrition, dietary diversity, agricultural diversification, and the socioeconomic impacts of nutrition-sensitive policies and programs. My recent work evaluates regional food-system interventions, including millet-based development initiatives, and their implications for household welfare and rural livelihoods.

Governance, Technology, and Epistemic Justice

I also explore emerging questions at the interface of technology, ethics, and development. This research examines the societal implications of Artificial Intelligence, with particular attention to indigenous knowledge systems, digital inclusion, and epistemic justice. The objective is to contribute to frameworks that promote responsible, context-sensitive, and inclusive technological innovation.

Methodological Expertise

My methodological orientation combines advanced computational analytics with conventional policy research approaches. I employ mixed-method research designs that integrate large-scale quantitative datasets, spatial analysis, and qualitative field investigations to generate comprehensive policy insights.

Publications and Editorial Contributions

I maintain an active research and editorial portfolio dedicated to advancing evidence-based policymaking in development and public health. My scholarly work has been published in journals and edited volumes associated with leading international academic publishers, including Springer Nature, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, SAGE Publications, Frontiers, Emerald Publishing, and other peer-reviewed platforms.

In my editorial capacity, I contribute to the peer-review process by evaluating research quality, methodological rigor, and policy relevance, thereby supporting the dissemination of high-impact scholarship across development studies, public health, social policy, and sustainability.

Research Vision

My long-term research objective is to produce policy-relevant evidence that advances equitable development, strengthens public institutions, and improves human well-being. By integrating rigorous empirical methods with interdisciplinary perspectives, I seek to contribute to scholarly debates and practical solutions addressing health disparities, nutritional insecurity, governance challenges, and emerging technological transformations in the Global South.
