About Noor Ahmad Akhundzadah

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Kabul University, an MSc in Agriculture, and a Ph.D. in Groundwater from the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan. Currently, I am a visiting scholar in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University.

I am an environmental geoscientist with expertise in hydrology, environmental geology, and the impacts of climate change. My research explores both historical trends and future climate scenarios, with a particular emphasis on climate change mitigation through renewable energy strategies. I have conducted applied research in groundwater assessment and modeling, including the use of COMSOL Multiphysics for simulating subsurface water flow. Additionally, I have investigated earthquake vulnerability and disaster risk reduction in Afghanistan. My work leverages satellite-based remote sensing datasets and employs advanced spatial and statistical analysis techniques using ArcGIS Pro and Python. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates environmental science, geospatial analysis, and climate policy, I contribute to developing practical solutions to pressing global environmental challenges.
