About Professor Aisha K. Gill

Professor Aisha K. Gill, PhD, CBE is Professor of Criminology and a leading internationally recognised expert on violence against women and girls (VAWG). Her research focuses on health, criminal justice, and policing responses to gender-based violence affecting Black, racially minoritised, refugee, and migrant women and girls in the UK and internationally. She is widely recognized for her work on forced marriage, ‘honour’-based abuse, femicide, sexual violence, and coercive control, and is a regular media commentator on these issues. Professor Gill has over 20 years of experience working across academia, policy, and the voluntary sector, and has advised governments, police forces, and frontline organizations on responses to gendered violence and human rights abuses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a key role in raising over £90,000 in emergency funds for migrant victim-survivors with no recourse to public funds. She has held senior advisory and governance roles, including serving as Co-Chair of the End Violence Against Women Coalition (2019–2024), and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Ashiana Network. Her work is grounded in a strong commitment to amplifying the voices of Black and racially minoritized women in gender-based violence policy and practice.
