About Rohini Balram

I am a researcher, educator, and creative writer whose work bridges academia and community, with a focus on intersectionality, gender, race, and social justice in sport and development. I am an Adjunct Fellow at the Humanitarian and Development Research Initiative (HADRI), Western Sydney University, and I use culturally grounded, arts-based, and participatory methods to work alongside marginalised and migrant communities.

Guided by feminist, decolonial, and intersectional frameworks, my interdisciplinary research explores the lived experiences of women and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) populations across sport and movement cultures, health, leisure, education, and the arts. Beyond academia, I am a fitness and wellbeing trainer, mid-distance runner, and poet, and I volunteer in Western Sydney to support older migrant women of colour through culturally responsive physical activity and creative writing programs.
