About Ryma Del Piero

I am an applied health psychology researcher interested in understanding the relationship between psychological processes, behavior, and long-term health. My work focuses particularly on chronic disease, stress, motivation, self-efficacy, and sustainable health behaviors, with a growing research focus on type 2 diabetes and dietary behavior.

My background in healthcare and psychology has shaped my interest in research that can move beyond identifying health problems toward understanding why people struggle to maintain healthy behaviors over time. I am especially interested in the psychological mechanisms that influence the transition from intention to sustained behavior change and in developing approaches that can be meaningfully applied in clinical settings.

My broader research interests sit at the intersection of psychology, behavioral health, nutrition, and chronic disease management. I am passionate about interdisciplinary research and about translating scientific findings into practical tools that can support both patients and healthcare professionals. My long-term goal is to develop an independent research program focused on psychologically informed and personalized approaches to improving long-term health outcomes.

I am particularly interested in research that asks not only what influences health behavior, but why people are able—or unable—to sustain change over time.
