About Shaheryar Shafi
I am Dr Shaheryar Shafi, a researcher investigating how inflammation, immunity and metabolism shape disease biology, with a particular interest in glioblastoma, colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
My research interests include efferocytosis, tumour–microenvironment interactions and molecular heterogeneity. I combine experimental approaches with transcriptomic analysis and evidence synthesis, including Bayesian meta-analysis, to investigate relationships between cellular context, molecular programmes and disease-associated changes.
A recurring question in my work is how to distinguish a reproducible molecular association from evidence of biological function or clinical usefulness. Through the Research Communities, I share research perspectives, discuss analytical and interpretive challenges, and connect with researchers working across cancer biology, immunology and computational analysis.
