About Shannon Dunn

Dr. Dunn is a Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute and an Associate Professor in the Department of Immunology at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. She was awarded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Sex and Gender chair in Immunity for her basic research on sex differences in the immune system. She leads a research program that focuses on how risk factors for multiple sclerosis (MS) affect the immune system, modulating autoimmunity in an animal model of MS called experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). She is currently investigating the role of female sex, obesity, smoking, and head injury on autoimmunity in EAE and MS.  In her past work, she made important contributions to understanding how biological sex and nutritional status alter the immune system.
