About Zarife Nigar Özdemir Kumral
My research focuses on integrative and translational physiology, particularly inter-organ communication along the gut–brain–kidney axis. I am interested in how inflammation, oxidative stress, and neurohumoral signaling shape epithelial and smooth muscle function in health and disease. In addition, I investigate vagus nerve–mediated mechanisms, including its role in modulating gut–brain communication as well as renal physiology, with a particular emphasis on vagal denervation–induced alterations in kidney tissue and neuroimmune signaling. My work combines functional tissue assays, molecular approaches, and histopathology to better understand complex physiological responses and identify novel therapeutic targets.
