About Zhenghong Yu

Zhenghong Yu is a distinguished professor and PhD holder born in September 1983. He has served as a visiting scholar at Technical University of Dresden and University of Bonn, Germany under a national fellowship. With cross-institutional roles, he serves as an adjunct doctoral supervisor at South China Agricultural University, a guest professor at the Hubei Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics, and a visiting professor at Mahanakorn University of Technology, Thailand.

His academic training includes a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wuhan Institute of Technology(WIT) under the mentorship of Prof. Zhang Yanduo, and a PhD from Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST) supervised by Prof. Cao Zhiguo. His research focuses on intelligent robotics, computer vision, and smart agriculture.

Professional Service & Educational Leadership

He serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Robotics Culture and Arts Committee, Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, and is a member of the Guangdong Vocational School Automation Professional Teaching Steering CommitteeHe has contributed to formulating industry group standards such as the "Technical Skill Level Assessment for Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Technicians" and the "Technical Specification for Humanoid Robot Data Acquisition Systems". As an expert member of the Ministry of Education's expert group, he participated in developing the teaching standards for the "Intelligent Robotics Technology" (Vocational College) and "Electronic Information Engineering Technology" (Vocational Undergraduate) programs. He has led the development of high-level professional programs in Guangdong, introduced and localized German IHK vocational standards, and spearheaded the formulation of four national 1+X certificate standards (e.g., "Machine Vision System Applications").

Research Output & Recognition

He has presided over more than 10 national and provincial research and platform projects, including the Ministry of Education Industrial Robot Application Talent Training Center, the Sino-German Advanced Vocational Education (SGAVE) Project, the National Teaching Resource Library for Intelligent Robotics Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Industry-Education Integration Innovation Application Platform, and the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation.

He has published 62 academic papers (22 SCI-indexed, primarily Q1, and 30 EI-indexed), with a total citation count of 935 and an H-index of 15. He holds 18 authorized national invention patents, 8 utility model patents, and 16 software copyrights. His exceptional competition record includes representing Chinese universities in the FIRA RoboWorld Cup in countries such as Singapore, Germany, the USA, and South Korea, securing a total of 6 championships, 7 second-place finishes, and 2 third-place finishes. Furthermore, he has achieved outstanding success in the China Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Competition, winning 15 championships, 3 second-place, and 8 third-place awards.

Recognized for teaching excellence, he received the 2023 Top 50 Digital Craftsman of China award and serves as Associate Editor for Journal of King Saud University - Computer and Information Sciences (SCI Q1) and Frontiers in Plant Science (SCI Q1), while reviewing for top-tier journals like IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (SCI Q1), Computers and Electronics in Agriculture (SCI Q1), Remote Sensing (SCI Q1), Plant Methods (SCI Q1), International Journal of Intelligent Systems (SCI Q1) etc.
