An unusual case of cervico-cutaneous fistula

The development of a cervico-cutaneous fistula following cesarean delivery is extremely rare. Once it is diagnosed, the fistulous tract must be excised promptly.

A fistula is defined as an abnormal communication between two epithelized surfaces—a cervico-cutaneous fistula is an unusual communication between the uterine cervix and the skin. Vesicovaginal, recto-vaginal,and uterovaginal fistulae are rare complications associated with obstetric trauma and gynecological surgery.1 It is unusual and extremely rare for a cervico-cutaneous fistula to occur as a result of cesarean delivery. Previously, one case of cervico-cutaneous fistula following septic abortion was reported in the literature from India.2

The present study reports an exceedingly rare and unusual case of cervico-cutaneous fistula successfully managed with excision of the fistulous tract. Informed consent was obtained from the patient for collection of their case history, as well as publication of this case report along with any accompanying images.
