Call for papers: Inflammation, Immunometabolism, and Chronic Disease
Published in Sustainability, General & Internal Medicine, and Immunology
What is this collection about?
Chronic diseases often arise from sustained interactions between immune activity, inflammatory signalling and cellular metabolism. Dysregulated inflammation and immunometabolism are increasingly recognised as key determinants of disease onset, progression and treatment response across many chronic conditions.
This cross-journal Collection focuses on studies that provide mechanistic insight with clear medical relevance into how inflammatory and immunometabolic processes shape chronic disease. We are particularly interested in research that elucidates causal pathways or cellular and molecular mechanisms, identifies clinically actionable biomarkers of disease risk or progression, and informs diagnostic or therapeutic approaches to target immune or immunometabolic pathways.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, inflammation and metabolism in cancer, immune dysfunction in metabolic disease, chronic inflammation in neurodegenerative and mental health conditions, and infection-associated chronic conditions such as long COVID and myalgic encephalomyelitis. The Collection prioritises work that links mechanistic understanding to clinical utility, supporting advances in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
With this cross-journal Collection, the editors at Communications Medicine, Nature Communications, Nature Immunology, and Scientific Reports invite manuscripts that provide biological insights into inflammatory and immunometabolic involvement in chronic conditions to improve diagnosis or treatment of disease.
Communications Medicine and Nature Communications will consider original Articles, Reviews and Perspectives. Scientific Reports will only consider original Articles.
Why is this collection important?
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well-being, by advancing understanding of the links between behaviour and health.
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
