Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Integrated nonlinear photonics

Integrated nonlinear photonics is emerging as an essential component of next-generation optical technologies, enabling compact, energy-efficient, and high-speed systems for applications including quantum information and sensing. By harnessing nonlinear optical effects within integrated platforms (e.g. lithium niobate, hybrid materials), researchers are pushing the boundaries of light–matter interactions at the chip scale.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 4th May 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"This Collection brings together original research focused on the design, fabrication, and
characterisation of integrated nonlinear photonic devices. It highlights advances in material
platforms, waveguide engineering, and original device architectures that enhance nonlinear
processes such as frequency conversion, all-optical switching, and supercontinuum generation. Contributions also explore the integration of nonlinear elements with other photonic components to realise complex, multifunctional systems.
"

- Dr. Bo Fu, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Muhammad Ali Butt, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland
  • Bo Fu, Beihang University, China
  • Pao Tai Lin, Texas A&M University, USA

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Silvia ButeraScientific Reports, UK
  • Commissioning Editor: Robert Moran, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
  • Managing Editor: Rebecca Chan, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
