Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Microgravity and space medicinal research.

This Collection explores gravitational biology, cancer research, and space medicine. It includes studies examining the effects of altered gravity on mammalian cells and humans under simulated and real microgravity conditions aboard the International Space Station (ISS), the China Space Station (CSS), and during parabolic flights (PFs).

It also examines the impact of space radiation, immune system changes, musculoskeletal degradation, and more. Insights gained not only support human space exploration but also offer valuable applications for medicine and health care on Earth, including aging, osteoporosis, and cancer research.

This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 26th May 2026.

Why is this Collection exciting?

"I’m excited about this Collection because it brings together groundbreaking studies that reveal how life adapts to microgravity, opening new frontiers for both space exploration and medicine." - Dr. Piercarlo Minoretti

Why submit to a Collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Ahmed M. Eldosouky, Suez University, Egypt
  • Xiaohua Lei, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
  • Piercarlo Minoretti, Miguel de Cervantes European University (UEMC), Spain

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Dr. Supriya LokhandeScientific Reports, India
  • Commissioning Editor: Faija Miah, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
  • Managing Editor: Chantale Davies, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
