What is this collection about?

Mixed methods research offers opportunities to integrate qualitative and quantitative approaches, providing deeper insight into psychological phenomena. This cross-journal Collection from Communications Psychology, Nature Communications, Scientific Reports and Scientific Reviews invites manuscripts that use mixed methods as well as papers on the development and application of mixed methods. The Collection also highlights emerging opportunities created by large-scale digital data sources and analytical technologies, while addressing questions of validity, reliability, reproducibility and best practices in data management. Communications Psychology and Nature Communications will consider original Articles, Reviews and Perspectives; Scientific Reports will consider original Articles; and Scientific Reviews will consider narrative Reviews.

Why is this collection important?

As psychological research increasingly engages with large and complex datasets, there is growing value in combining quantitative analysis with rich qualitative insights. This Collection aims to showcase how mixed methods can strengthen understanding of human behaviour, language and social interaction while helping researchers address methodological challenges. By bringing together contributions across multiple journals, the Collection will promote discussion of best practices and encourage methodological innovation across the psychological sciences.
