Call for papers: Next-generation power electronics Collection
Published in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Next-generation power electronics.
Next-generation power electronics refer to advanced technologies and systems designed to manage and convert electrical energy with significantly higher efficiency, power density, and reliability compared to conventional counterparts. These advancements are driven by the growing demand for energy-efficient solutions in sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy integration, industrial automation, and data centers. The core innovations enabling this transition include wide-bandgap semiconductors—primarily SiC and GaN—which offer superior electrical properties, such as higher breakdown voltage, faster switching speeds, and lower conduction losses than traditional silicon-based devices. These characteristics enable more compact designs, reduced cooling requirements, and improved system-level performance.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 24th April 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
"Power electronics is playing a critical ubiquitous role in modern society, with applications spanning from consumer electronics, transportation, renewable energy, power grid, to AI and data centers, and more. This Collection offers a unique opportunity to showcase the recent advancements for next-generation power electronics from materials, devices, circuits to systems based on both traditional semiconductors and emerging wide/ultrawide bandgap semiconductors."
- Dr. Houqiang Fu, Guest Editor
Why submit to a collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
