Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Vaginal delivery after cesarean section

As the rate of cesarean section increases, vaginal delivery after cesarean section remains an important topic in obstetric practice. Although vaginal delivery has benefits, such as lower risk of infection and shorter hospital stays, there are also risks of attempting a vaginal delivery following a previous cesarean. Therefore, research in this area is essential for optimizing labor management protocols and enhancing the safety and satisfaction of birthing individuals.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 26th March 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Around one in five births is by cesarean section globally. Opting for vaginal birth in the subsequent pregnancy is popular - a choice made by around three thirds. Nevertheless, trial of labor after cesarean is not without risks. Patient counseling and fetal surveillance are important for safe outcomes. This collection on vaginal delivery after cesarean will be the first of its kind focusing on pros and cons for this choice, offering a comprehensive take on the current knowledge and keep you up to date. In this particular issue, we welcome manuscripts on all aspects of vaginal delivery after cesarean section; for example regarding the mother, baby, family, healthcare professionals, and society."
