Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Transgender healthcare.

Transgender people face persistent barriers to accessing safe, competent, and affirming healthcare. Discrimination, lack of knowledgeable providers, and inadequate care models all contribute to poor health outcomes. Despite growing recognition of these challenges, transgender people have historically been excluded from medical research, resulting in significant knowledge gaps. Research in this field may include, but is not limited to, mental health support, hormone therapy, gender-affirming surgeries, and the intersection of transgender healthcare with broader public health considerations.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 1st September 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"There has never been a more critical time to share accurate, evidence-based research about transgender health. I am excited that this collection will provide a space for scientists to showcase their work in this field and influence the direction of public health policy. "

- Dr. Tonia Poteat, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
