Investigating the psychedelic hypothesis of kykeon, the sacred elixir of the Eleusinian Mysteries
The study tested whether ergot alkaloids in Claviceps purpurea could be transformed into psychoactive lysergic acid amides using techniques plausibly available to the Eleusinian priestesses. It demonstrated that treating ergot with alkaline lye converts toxic ergopeptides into LSA and iso‑LSA, providing experimental support for the psychedelic Eleusis hypothesis.
Lifetime MDMA use and associations with meaning in life in the context of childhood trauma
The study examined whether lifetime MDMA use relates to meaning in life, particularly among adults with childhood trauma. It found no overall association, but MDMA use was linked to higher meaning in life specifically in individuals with trauma histories, suggesting a potential resilience‑related effect that warrants further longitudinal research.
Acute experiences and persisting psychological effects associated with an encapsulated DMT-harmala alkaloid combination: results of a phase 1 study
The phase 1 study evaluated an encapsulated DMT–harmala formulation and found that it reliably produced strong acute psychedelic experiences, with dose‑dependent increases across multiple validated subjective‑effects scales. These intense acute experiences were strongly associated with beneficial persisting psychological effects, suggesting that the formulation merits further investigation in controlled clinical trials to assess therapeutic potential and safety.
Acute effects of psilocybin on the dynamics of gaze fixations during visual aesthetic perception
The study used eye‑tracking to examine how psilocybin alters visual exploration during aesthetic perception, comparing low‑ and high‑dose conditions. High doses produced more localized, less entropic gaze patterns and heightened emotional intensity without changing aesthetic ratings, suggesting a dissociation between perceptual and evaluative components of visual experience under psychedelics.
