The COVID-19 pandemic has overthrown our lives in many ways, and has certainly altered human behaviour worldwide. At Nature Human Behaviour, we have created a new Focus on COVID-19 and Human Behaviour. Our aim is to combine expert viewpoints with robust empirical research that explores how our behaviour is, for better or worse, shaping the course of this pandemic and changing in response to it.
At the time of writing, our Focus comprises two Perspective pieces on behavioural science and pandemic response, six World Views from disciplines including health psychology, economics, anthropology and international affairs, a Comment on the politics of pandemic response, a Q&A with the WHO Regional Director for Africa at the very beginning of the pandemic response on the continent, two editorials, and three Research Highlights from our editorial team – including one that covers a Science article from 1919 after the last pandemic.
We’re proud of and grateful for the pieces currently in this Focus, which we hope you’ll find are of broad scope and high relevance. But we’re not stopping here - this Focus is far from complete. We’ve received record numbers of submissions to our journal, and more content will be included in the Focus in coming weeks and months. As our editorial explains, we are offering expedited peer review to COVID-19 related research manuscripts of high robustness and importance. At a time of crisis, we’re grateful to all of our authors and reviewers, as well as our extremely hardworking production team, for helping us in continuing to build this Focus in a way that we hope can make a constructive contribution to the ongoing efforts of the scientific community to curb this pandemic and mitigate its impacts. Thank you so much for reading this post, please do take a look at the Focus, and finally, if you are working on a project that you feel to represent cutting edge, robust behavioural science with the potential to combat the current crisis, please be in touch
