Dr. Yohannes Yihdego is a Senior Principal Hydrogeologist with over 20 years of global experience in hydrogeology, groundwater engineering and environmental geoscience. Chartered Environmental Professional (CEnvP) and Registered Professional Geoscientist (RPGeo), with deep expertise in groundwater modelling, aquifer interference, mine dewatering, and contamination risk assessment. Delivered technical solutions for major mining, infrastructure, energy, aviation, and water resource projects across Australia, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Serves as Adjunct Research Fellow and External Examiner for postgraduate research programs.

His technical experience encompasses the broad spectrum of construction, operational and environmental groundwater tasks of large mining and infrastructure (transport, hydropower & Energy) developments including dewatering, depressurisation, water supply, water quality management, aquifer interference, groundwater impact & risk assessment, and design related tasks. During his years working as consultant for multi-disciplinary projects he has obtained specialised skills on hydrogeological investigations and in the application of numerical modelling to groundwater and geotechnical applications.

Dr. Yohannes has delivered solutions for complex projects across mining, infrastructure, energy, aviation, and water sectors, including Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro Tunnel, Snowy 2.0 Pumped Hydro, and major mining operations in Australia, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. His mining experience spans base metals, precious metals, oil & gas, with expertise in hydrogeological modelling for TSFs, WRDs, pits, and underground mines, mine closure planning, seepage analysis, and regulatory approvals.

Dr. Yohannes has authored 50+ peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering, groundwater modelling, mining, and environmental geoscience, and serves as a peer reviewer and editorial board member.
