About Esma Taşdemir

I am an interior architect and researcher who has completed a master’s degree in Interior Architecture, with a strong interdisciplinary perspective and a focus on both academic inquiry and social impact–oriented projects. Throughout my education, I have consistently advocated for an understanding of spatial design that goes beyond aesthetics, embracing its social, cultural, and sensory dimensions. This approach has shaped both my academic research and my practical work in the field.

My master’s thesis focused on acoustic comfort in educational interiors, a study that enabled me to critically examine the relationship between user experience, spatial awareness, and the physical environment. In line with my goal of pursuing an academic career, I aim to position design-led research within a framework that is sustainable, accessible, and deeply connected to cultural and geographic contexts.

Alongside my academic work, I have taken active roles in numerous socially engaged projects addressing cultural heritage, memory spaces, and public space design. I am the founder of Memory Spaces Kahramanmaraş, an initiative that focuses on post-earthquake urban memory, digital archiving, and cultural continuity, prioritizing local participation and collective remembrance. In parallel, through Harmony Creative Hub, I seek to foster a creative, inclusive, and inspiring community for young professionals and students in architecture and design disciplines.

I have had the opportunity to develop a multifaceted professional profile through nationally and internationally awarded projects, design internships, my role as a board member of the Chamber of Interior Architects (TMMOB) İzmir Branch, and by delivering seminars and talks across different platforms.

Today, as an interior architect and researcher, I strive to balance academic writing, design research, cultural engagement, creative production, and social benefit. I am particularly interested in collaborative learning, interdisciplinary partnerships, and project-based collaborations within education- and design-driven production processes.
