As co-PI of the Obesity Research Group in the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases (Shanghai), Dr. Wang is mainly engaged in the research of novel pathogenic mutations and clinical intervention of severe obesity. With the Genetics of Obesity in Chinese Youngs (GOCY) study, his group has identified several novel obesity-causal gene mutations, in which he focused on LGR4 and cardiometabolic diseases and made several achievements. Collaborating with colleagues, he proposed the concept of the “Traditional Jiangnan Diet” and accomplished clinical intervention to prove the metabolic benefits of the dietary pattern. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed research articles in top impact journals,  including Nat Cell Biol, Endocr Rev, Nat Metab, Sci Adv, Adv Sci, Circulation, and Cir Res. His team has also translated the findings to clinical intervention, for instance, applying Akkermansia muciniphila (W03 strain) to diabetic patients for the first time.
