About Luca Mercatelli
I graduated in Physics from the University of Florence in 2000, where I subsequently earned a Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Health Physics in 2002 and a Master’s degree from the Graduate School of Optics in 2005. From 2000 to 2001, I worked on fluorescence microscopy and medical applications research. Since 2001, I have been working at the National Institute of Optics of the National Research Council of Italy.
My work encompasses both fundamental and industrial research.
In the Solar Materials Laboratory, I focus on measuring the optical properties of novel solid and liquid solar absorbers.
In the Lighting and Photometry Laboratory, I contribute to developing and testing industrial and environmental applications of optoelectronics, photometry, lighting, and colour measurement.
I also collaborate on medical research with the Department of Medical Physiopathology and on studies of the visual system and orientation of amphipods with the Department of Biology at the University of Florence.
I teach the annual course “Physics for Biomedical Applications” at the University of Florence.
