About Roald Leeuwerik

I am a PhD candidate (close to graduation) looking at politics in wastewater management. Specifically, I am interested in how different kinds of knowledge are used to make decisions. Far from being a neutral subject, wastewater can be very different experienced and may not be the highest priority for everyone. These differences, under the influence of power relations, shape wastewater management locally. For my PhD, I have done research to three tropical islands: San Andrés (Colombia), Gili Trawangan (Indonesia) and Zanzibar. These islands all face significant challenges with wastewater, exacerbated by the rapid growth of the local marine tourism sector. The international context, special study sites, and relevance of my work give me a great motivation.

Interesting reflections! I think AI can support our work, definitely not take it over or replace us. With the rapid developments in AI, we all still need to find our way. It is the right moment to think about the responsible use of AI, our own accountability, and how it can support us now and in the future.
