About Rohan Mathur

I have the privilege of caring for critically ill patients in the Neurosciences Critical Care Units at Johns Hopkins, where every decision can mean the difference between survival and lasting recovery. My passion lies at the intersection of clinical care, research, and innovation—bringing together real-world ICU insights, large-scale data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to predict neurological crises before they happen. By shifting from reactive to proactive management of brain injuries, strokes, neuroinfectious diseases, and brain tumors, I hope to transform the way we care for patients with life-threatening neurological conditions. I serve as the Associate Director for the Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Neurocritical Care at Johns Hopkins, leading an interdisciplinary team of physician scientists, computer scientists, data scientists, applied mathematicians and engineers. At its core, my team's research is about creating real, translatable tools that empower physicians and frontline clinicians to make better, faster, and more informed decisions for their patients. My goal is to bridge the gap between innovation and impact, ensuring that AI-driven insights don’t just stay in research papers but truly change lives.

Beyond research, I am deeply committed to the human side of medicine. I have been honored with awards for humanism in medicine and excellence in teaching and serve as core faculty for the John’s Hopkins Center for Humanizing Medicine, where I work to ensure that cutting-edge science never comes at the expense of compassionate patient care.
