About Russell Rising
I have been a whole room indirect calorimeter application specialist for nearly 40 years. I also co-own D & S Consulting Services Inc., a company that specializes in the creation of whole room indirect calorimeters.
I received my MS and Ph.D degrees in Nutrition/Exercise physiology from the University of Arizona. I have worked at the National Institutes of Health, Maimonides Medical Center, Miami Children's Hospital, Mount Sinai Health System and Columbia University. I have over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high ranking journals. My most most recent manuscript was just accepted by the International Journal of Obesity. Furthermore, I have published five medical text book chapters. Finally, I am currently a Guangci Professor (adjunct) of Ruijin Hospital/Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
Some highlights of my career include perfecting the first practical room calorimeter for infants from birth till six-months. I have also perfected the first whole room indirect calorimeter for non-human primates. Finally, I have created eight whole room indirect calorimeters around the world including the United States, China, Germany, Norway and Brazil. I have the largest whole room indirect calorimeter laboratory to my credit comprising of seven metabolic chambers. One is the first ever simulated altitude chamber utilizing new technology.
I have been a college adjunct professor teaching all nutrition related courses from freshman year on through graduate level.
