1. The enrichment of organic matter in black shale is not caused by anoxic environments. Black shale is one of the climate-sensitive sediments and represents cold temperate zones.

Walker-Trivett (2024) proposed that Kerguelen volcanism triggered OAE2, leading to a super-hot-house climate.However, both modern and ancient evidence indicate that there is no direct correlation between the deposition of organic-rich shales and super-hot-house climate or oceanic anoxia.

The intensity of carbon sinks is closely related to climate zones. High carbon sinks are primarily found in cold temperate zone with low productivity, while the carbon sink intensity in other climate zones is low.

The conclusion "coal records were associated with a median temperature of 25°C," reached by Bao et al. [1], is erroneous, due to its violation of the coal-forming environments from the Permian period to the present and modern peat accumulation.
