2025 Microphysiological Systems World Summit

The 2025 Microphysiological Systems World Summit took place on June 9th until 13th, in Brussels. In Vitro Models, a member of Springer Nature’s journal portfolio focussing on the development and application of in vitro tools and methods, was delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the first-ever 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, organized by the Early Career Investigators Interest Group of the society and the Local Organizing Committee, in the context of the summit
According to Ana Mara-Boza, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Galway, Ireland, co-coordinator of the event and editorial board member of In Vitro Models, had the following quote:
“It was a great success, and we had a lovely evening full of engaging presentations and networking. The quality of the talks was outstanding, and the event played a key role in fostering a sense of community among the society’s early-career members.
Out of 52 abstract submissions, 10 outstanding finalists were selected, and 3 cash prizes were awarded to the top presenters.”

In Vitro Models Journal
In Vitro Models is online-only journal dedicated to the development and application of in vitro tools and methods. It focuses on 3D research methods to emulate human tissues, organs, and diseases. The journal welcomes contributions that can effectively emulate human tissues, organs, and diseases.
The journal is particularly interested in supporting early career researchers and emerging nations. Impact Factor Announcement
The journal and the editors-in-chief are delighted that as of 2025, the journal has received its first impact factor of 2.4. We thank the editors, authors, reviewers and readers who have been essential in making this major milestone happen.

Modelling Immunity
The collection of publications is built upon the pathogen-host immune response research in the post-COVID era and the recent development of immunotherapies in many disease areas. One of the critical problems in using animals for preclinical testing is their distinct immune system compared to humans. Though animal models can be generated, such an approach is often technically challenging and costly. Therefore, we hope this special issue can attract people working in the field to share their thoughts and knowledge on establishing better in vitro systems to model normal and diseased immune responses.
