Call for papers: Emerging water contaminants
Published in Earth & Environment
Collection Overview
Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Emerging water contaminants
Emerging contaminants pose a growing threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health, demanding urgent scientific attention. Submissions addressing ecological interactions, environmental monitoring, or remediation in freshwater, marine, or wastewater systems are welcome.
This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 23rd March 2026.
Why is this Collection important?
“I find the Emerging water contaminants Collection deeply timely and vital because pollutants like microplastics, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metals pose growing threats to both ecosystems and human health—a challenge made urgent by climate and waste pressures, aligning closely with SDG 6 and SDG 13. I’m excited by this Collection’s integrative scope, which spans monitoring, ecological impacts, and remediation across water systems. Its impact could be transformative, catalyzing interdisciplinary solutions and real-world interventions. For researchers, submitting here means contributing to a high-visibility platform that promotes actionable science on one of the most pressing environmental frontiers.” - Sovik Das
This Collection also supports and amplifies research related to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Why submit to a Collection?
Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
