What is this collection about?

Coatings are among the most widely used products of the chemical industry and play a crucial role in modern society. This cross-journal Collection invites research on organic coatings across applications including construction, textiles, healthcare, aerospace, and other sectors.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:

  • Organic coating formulations (waterborne, solventborne, powder, polymer based formulations and resin chemistry).
  • Applications and properties of organic coatings, including addressing sustainability challenges.
  • New insights into the chemistry of resins, additives and curing technologies.
  • Computational and analytical tools for studying the characterization, durability and performance of organic coatings.

The Collection welcomes contributions that advance the science and application of organic coatings while addressing challenges relevant to industrial and commercial deployment.

Why is this collection important?

Organic coatings are essential for extending the lifetime and performance of materials used across many sectors of society. Despite significant advances, important challenges remain, including reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds, improving sustainability, increasing energy efficiency, and addressing coating degradation and end-of-life waste.

By bringing together research across chemistry, materials science, sustainability, and engineering, this Collection aims to highlight innovations that can improve coating performance while supporting more sustainable coating technologies.

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
