Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Psychonutrition.

Psychonutrition is a relatively new field, whereby the areas of nutrition and psychiatry merge together to focus on the impact of nutrition on mental health. Studies show that nutritional deficiencies can impair our gut health and immune system, often affecting our emotional and psychological states. Yet, dietary interventions are not commonly used to treat mental health conditions.

This will be a Collection of original research papers and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed to our sister journal, Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 3rd December 2026.

Why is this Collection exciting?

"Psychonutrition is an emerging and highly interdisciplinary field exploring how nutrition influences mental health, cognition, stress resilience, eating behaviour and brain function across the lifespan. As rates of mental health disorders, obesity and stress-related conditions continue to rise globally, understanding the role of nutrition in psychological and behavioural health has never been more important. I am excited about this Collection because it brings together perspectives from nutrition, neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry.
