Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Synthetic biomolecular condensates.

Synthetic biomolecular condensates are inspired by the biological liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). It remains in an early developmental stage, yet the compositions now surpass natural LLPS, including peptides, DNA, RNA, proteins, and chemical components. It has also shown programmable and regulation promises in biomechanism, catalysis, sensing, storage, and delivery.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. Narrative review articles are also welcomed, to our sister journal Scientific Reviews. We are welcoming submissions until 4th March 2027.

Why is this Collection important?

"Biomolecular condensates have been gaining tremendous attention not just because of their relevance in biology and medicine but also due its exciting role in synthetic biology. The endless possibilities of using tailor-made components along with the natural ones to design smart condensate assemblies, capable of catalyzing, sensing, delivering, and so on offer a new route in understanding and utilizing biomolecular self-assembly. Submit your article or a review to this Collection that welcomes research pertaining to synthetic condensates and aims to bring it under one roof to an interdisciplinary audience."

- Dr. Siddharth Deshpande, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Guest Editors:

  • Siddharth Deshpande, Wageningen University, Netherlands
  • Yeongseon Jang, University of Florida, USA
  • Avik Samanta, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India

Internal Team:

  • In-House Editor: Junxia Wang, Scientific Reports, China
  • Commissioning Editor: Charlotte Ben Romdhane, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK
  • Managing Editor: Rebecca Chan, Fully OA Brands, Springer Nature, UK

How can I submit my paper?
