I love making lists for the global health community! It is my small contribution towards making the field a bit more equitable.

Those who follow me already use my lists of great  books in global health, inspiring  films in global health, and global health  blogs to read and pitch to.

In this post, I discuss several wonderful podcasts on global health. These podcasts are not only a great source of knowledge, they usually have no paywalls, and reach more people than scientific journals do. Furthermore, many are working hard to platform Global South practitioners, Black, Indigenous and people of color working in this space, and those who are doing great work in the community, outside of academia. Thus, in a small way, they are contributing to epistemic justice.

Some are entirely focused on elevating Global South voices, and that is much needed in a field that is dominated by elites in the Global North.

Global Health Unfiltered is a podcast that shines a light on the contributions of Africans to global health challenges and discusses decolonization from the perspective of African researchers and practitioners. This podcast is hosted by four young African scholars - Desmond Jumbam, Ella Amoko, Ulrick Kamounye, and Yaw Bediako.

Global Health Matters podcast is a forum by TDR/WHO for discussing diverse global health issues. Garry Aslanyan is the Executive Producer and the Host. It is now in its 5th season, and has showcased diverse experts from around the world. Garry has also offered helpful tips on how to create podcasts.

Global Health Uncensored is a popular podcast & video series by host Banda Khalifa, spotlighting bold conversations at the intersection of global health, higher education, leadership, and real-world impact. This podcast includes high quality videos which makes it suitable for classroom use.

Global Health Politics is a podcast hosted by Joseph Harris, and it tackles issues at the intersection of politics, society, and global health. The Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing crisis in the United States clearly underscore the value of discussing power and politics and their critical importance in global health.

The Lancet Global Health in conversation with is a podcast hosted by the Editors at The Lancet Global Health, in conversation with the journal’s authors, explore their latest research and its impact on people’s health, healthcare, and health policy. The Lancet Voice is a sister podcast that focuses on a wider range of medical issues, beyond global health.

Global Health Insights is a podcast by IHME, where their health researchers explain the significance of new studies, share data related to current events, and help us understand the story behind the Global Burden of Disease numbers.

Needless to say, there are many podcasts dedicated to public health (e.g. Public Health Insight, Public Health On Call) that I will not cover in this post. Some of them do tackle topics of global health relevance.
