The introduction of a family of marine science journals at BMC presents a wealth of opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing to foster a comprehensive look at the diverse areas that comprise this fascinating field.

Clean Oceans

Editor-in-Chief: Sylvia Sander, PhD, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany

The goal of this journal is to offer a platform that will support and accelerate progress towards preventing and reducing marine pollutionClean Oceans offers a uniquely interdisciplinary approach to understanding the impacts of chemical, biological, and physical pollutants on Earth’s oceans in pursuit of sustainable and responsible conservation. Additionally, the journal will also cover research on the direct and indirect impacts of ocean pollution on animal and human health, communities, and natural habitats. This pressing global challenge involves social, policy, legal, and behavioural aspects to which the journal also supports interdisciplinary perspectives.

Ocean Ecosystems

Editor-in-Chief: Christopher Cornwall, PhD, Victoria University of Wellington,  New Zealand

The importance of oceans as a pillar of Earth’s ecosystem cannot be emphasised enough. This new journal aims to support and cultivate progress towards a global commitment to sea sustainability, by developing scientific knowledge in the factors influencing life in the oceans, including climate change, pollution, ocean acidification, and other adverse impacts, and the biology of oceans affecting the oceanographic system, in terms of geochemistry, sediments, and the atmosphere, among the others.

Ocean Microbiology

Editor-in-Chief: Ramiro Logares Haurié, PhD, Institute of Marine Sciences, CSIC, Spain

Ocean Microbiology is dedicated to advancing the field by capturing the interactions, adaptations, and roles of microorganisms within marine and aquatic ecosystems. We encourage submissions investigating marine microbial ecology, physiology, and genetics in addition to microbe interactions and symbiosis. We welcome cross-disciplinary research that explores microbial biogeochemistry and the wider potential applications of marine microbes in blue biotechnology and nature-based solutions addressing societal challenges. We are also interested in the impact of climate change on microbial communities and populations, and the modulating or mitigating effects of microbes.

Phycology Journal

Editor-in-Chief: Burkhard Becker, PhD, University of Cologne, Germany

Phycology Journal is dedicated to the exploration and dissemination of cutting-edge research in the field of phycology—the study of algae. The journal aims to provide a prominent platform for discoveries and insights related to all aspects of algae, from their basic biology to their applied uses. The scope of the journal encompasses, but is not limited to, the following areas algal diversity and taxonomy, algal physiology and biochemistry, algal ecology, algal biotechnology and its applications, algal culture and Cultivation, algae and global change.
