We recently heard that Staffan Normark was stepping down as Editor in Chief of NPJ Biofilms and Microbiomes.

To build on his work two new Chief Editors have been appointed, Professor Cathy Lozupone from the University of Colorado and Professor Alain Filloux from Imperial College. 

Cathy and Alain have complementary backgrounds for this journal. Cathy specialises in microbial communities in the gut and has developed popular tools to study them (did someone say UniFrac?). Alain specialises in molecular microbiology and regulatory networks focussing on Type II and Type VI secretion systems.

I chatted to them both over Skype to find out more about them and what they see in the future of the journal.
